The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has expressed its appreciation for the Senate’s endorsement of the ratification of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention No. 190, the Convention Concerning the Elimination of Violence and Harassment in the World of Work (ILO C190). The Philippines’ ratification of ILO C190 signifies a pivotal step in combating violence and harassment in the workplace, encompassing all workers across the public and private sectors, irrespective of their employment location.

Commitment to Labor Rights:

DMW Officer-in-Charge Atty. Hans Leo J. Cacdac emphasized that the ratification reflects the Philippines’ steadfast commitment to fostering safe and dignified work environments for all Filipinos, aligning with the constitutional guarantees of labor rights.

Significance for OFWs:

The ratification of ILO C190 holds particular importance for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), who often confront vulnerabilities to exploitation, discrimination, and abuse abroad. The convention offers enhanced protection and avenues for accountability against abusive employers.

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chair Imelda “Imee” R.
