DMW vows continuing support for 27 human trafficking victims from Cambodia

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) continues its efforts to support and assist Filipino human trafficking victims in Cambodia. Here’s a summary of the key details:

Assistance to Victims:

The DMW has been actively involved in assisting 27 Filipino human trafficking victims from Cambodia. Representatives from the Department visited the victims in Cambodia to provide psycho-social assistance and gather statements for filing cases and complaints.

Support from OWWA:

Upon the victims’ arrival last Friday, December 8, 2023, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), an attached agency of the DMW, provided essential support, including transportation, transit, and accommodation assistance to ensure the victims’ well-being.

Legal Proceedings:

The DMW, in coordination with the Department of Justice (DOJ) prosecutors, is committed to assisting the victims in prosecuting cases related to syndicated illegal recruitment and qualified human trafficking, ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.

Comprehensive Support:

In addition to legal and psycho-social assistance, the DMW is dedicated to providing further financial and reintegration support to the victims, aiding them in rebuilding their lives and reintegrating into society.

Acknowledgments:

The DMW expressed gratitude to the Cambodian National Police for facilitating the rescue of the victims, Caritas Cambodia for providing shelter during the processing of their exit documents, and the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh for leading the rescue and repatriation efforts.
